About the Trio:

Infectious freedom, joyful noises, and serious fun. Drummer Vinnie Sperrazza, pianist Jacob Sacks, and bassist Masa Kamaguchi explore jazz-making in three modes- free improvisation, original composition, and standards. Where admirers of Nat King Cole, Sonny Clark, and Cecil Taylor can meet and greet, as the trio tours the Continent for the first time. Celebrating the release of their first album, "Barcelona Holiday" on Fresh Sound Records.

Press Quotes about "Barcelona Holiday":

"The...sense of freedom, imagination, and enthusiasm is at once infectious and throughly exemplary of the spirit, fun, and seriousness Sperrazza brings to all his projects."

-Wilbur MacKenzie, New York City Jazz Record

"[The trio] are making first class jazz that has the mark of immediacy, of in-the-moment improvisation that works...."

-Grego Gapplegate Edwards, Gapplegate Music Review

"Never losing the sense of freshness, [Barcelona Holiday] is a compelling work, made with taste, and an eminently modern varnish."

-Carlos Lara, Tomajazz.com

Vinnie Sperraza Bio:

Drummer Vinnie Sperrazza earned a degree in jazz studies from William Paterson University. While at WPU, he began a long-term musical relationship with the legendary pianist James Williams, which continued until Mr. Williams' passing in July 2004. Through the auspices of Mr. Williams, he performed in many memorable concerts and recordings with such musicians as Steve Wilson, Bill Mobley, Richard Davis, Mulgrew Miller, and Clark Terry.

Since moving to Brooklyn in 2002, he has been an in-demand sideman, and has released four recordings as a leader or co-leader. The Matt Blostein-Vinnie Sperrazza Band has performed extensively throughout the US in support of "Ursa Minor", their first album, on Envoi Recordings. In 2009, Fresh Sound Records released "Peak Inn", by the Vinnie Sperrazza Trio featuring Jacob Sacks, and in 2010 came their follow up, "Barcelona Holiday", also on Fresh Sound Records.

He has performed in concerts, clubs, and festivals in the US, Canada, Japan, and Europe, had his work reviewed by All About Jazz, Downbeat, and Ben Ratliff of the New York Times singled out his "glassy, decaying tone" in a 2010 review of a concert. He has had the honor and privilege of performing with such great New York musicians as Tony Malaby, John McNeil, Joel Frahm, Wayne Escoffery, Jimmy Greene, Steve Cardenas, Loren Stillman, Miles Okazaki, and Ohad Talmor.
